You can get an EMA if you’re aged 16, 17, 18 or 19 years on or between and and all of the following statements apply to you: your household income is £20,500 or less for households with one dependent child or £22,500 or less for households with more than one dependent child.
How much do your parents have to earn to get EMA?
To qualify, households with one dependent child must be earning £24,421 per year or less, and households with more than one dependent child must be earning £26,884 or less, before tax. Dependent children are those up to the age of 16 and those between the age of 16 and 25 in full time further or higher education.

The amount you can get varies depending on your situation and circumstances. But it could be up to £1,200 a year, if you’re studying full time for at least 30 weeks. If your course is less than that, you can still apply but you’ll probably get less.
