Which is better to talk to HR or your boss?

HR is often better to approach in this situation than your boss, because HR staff tend to be aware that they need to handle this issues seriously and carefully and are generally trained in how to proceed (whereas your boss may or may not be).

Who is the best person to deal with your bad boss?

Susan Heathfield is an HR and management consultant with an MS degree. She has covered HR for The Balance Careers since 2000. You’re weary. You’re frustrated. You’re unhappy.

How should I act after reporting my Boss to HR?

Mentoring is not in her genetic code. Meanwhile, the dead weight of our team (think: folks who literally come in every day and read novels at their desk and/or do online shopping for everyone to see) are coddled, stroked, and cooed at.

When do I talk to HR, do they have to keep it confidential?

HR has to make sure the employee is eligible to move, which means they have to talk to your boss, and while they’re at it, they would also determine critical job functions and begin to make plans for another job opening. As much as I would like to say that I’m okay with conversations about so & so moving on..

What should you do if your boss doesn’t respect you?

That boss didn’t stick around long. Somebody figured out that she made a better ventriloquist’s dummy than a manager and she was out the door. Over time I learned that you can’t stick around to work for people who don’t respect you. What is the point? If a job only pays your bills, it’s robbing you!
